Prêt-à-Porter Spring 2010:
Giambattista Valli

You can just tell that Giambattisa Valli enjoys making women feel special. On Monday, he showed another absolutely beautiful collection with detailing at the level of couture. The leather fringe, the sculpted ruffles, the beading — and those feathers! It’s such a unique and sumptuous look that he creates, but it’s also totally wearable.

Some of the designs had a modern classiness to them while others were a little more wild and whimsical. I could see myself wearing either depending upon the occasion. The last few dresses with the blood-red dip-dyed feathers were pretty fantastic.

Beyond being incredibly talented, Giambattista is such a fun guy. From late nights at Le Montana to backstage congratulations, I’ve gotten to know him since first attending his show last year. He’s a hit with the fashion editors, socialites and apparently those on my Mother-Daughter and Inherited Beauty Chic Lists! They’re the mothers, daughters, fathers and sons with prevailing beauty and style that I have written about over the years, and many of them were front row at Valli. Lapo Elkann was there, along with Elettra Rossellini-Wiedermann, Alba, Francesco and Chiara Clemente, and Bianca and Coco Brandolini.

There was definitely a buzz in the air both before and after the show. Zoe Saldana, Ashley Ashoff, Marta Marzotto, Paola Fendi, Mary-Kate Olsen, Matilde and Isabella Borromeo, Francesca Versace, Claire Chazal and Arnaud Lemaire (among others) were all there to support Giambattista and then to celebrate his success.
