Chic Shopping in Paris:
Mary Beyer
In the window of Mary Beyer
I walk the Palais Royal every time I’m in Paris, so I’m not sure how I missed Mary Beyer before now. In my pursuit of finding the new and unique, this is definitely one of those hidden gems.
Mary Beyer is the perfect made-to-measure glove boutique. Mary herself is a couture master, having worked for many fashion houses. She presents Haute Couture glove collections for men and women twice a year and offers customized service as well. Mary makes all the gloves herself – at a former couture manufacturing facility in the South of France.
Goat kid leather with lace
Chic and warm
These gloves are sensational – goat kid leather, crocodile, ostrich, mink, suede, sequins, lace, diamond and pearl adornments. Beautifully-made, like works of art.
Dazzling bracelet encrusted with Swarovski crystals
Grey suede glove featuring pearls and diamonds
Fingerless black sequin glove
For a dinner party perhaps?
Inside the boutique
Mary’s boutique is chic and intimate. There are neckpieces and accessories alongside the glove collections. You must come in for a fitting – you can’t buy them online. Mary claims that gloves make a woman’s hands look thinner and more elegant – and with gloves one moves differently. I think she’s right. Next time I’m in Paris, I will have a pair made for me.
